About the records, sources and search
Historical passports and Azorean emigration
Historical passport records offer clues for tracing migration and family histories from the Azores. Depending on the source, they may contain names, ages, places of birth, parents, occupations, destinations and accompanying relatives. These details should be confirmed with other records.
This independent Fagundes Genealogy project organises and transcribes entries associated with Angra, Horta and Ponta Delgada. Coverage of years and registers is incomplete. Some information may be missing or subject to transcription errors and discrepancies between documents.
Search by name, then use island, parish, date, port and destination filters. Try name variations and compare possible matches with baptism, marriage, civil registration or passenger records. The issuing port is not necessarily the person's parish of birth.
Sources: consult the Archives of the Azores portal for archival descriptions, collections and original records. This index does not replace examining the originals and is not a complete inventory of issued passports.
